Harlemite

About two years ago, a new restaurant hit Lenox Ave., and we kept saying “we should try that we really should try that.” Because the signage was slow to go up, we were slow to visit, but we finally did and, honestly, should have gone sooner. Harlemite is a Peruvian restaurant and a much needed addition to the Harlem culinary scene because Peru really knows their way around a roast chicken.

We each got our own entrees (I couldn’t resist the 1/2 chicken with GREEN SAUCE) but did plenty of sharing too. There were ceviches, plantains, a Causa, and fries with sausage. Portions were ample and plates were cleaned – everyone seemed very happy with their meal.

One of the best things about this place is the garden. It feels like the loveliest little hideaway. It was the perfect place to sip some of their sangria, which was quite tasty. And they do happy hour out there?! Well, the happy hour is restaurant-wide, but wouldn’t you want to do it out there?
